Licensing
buildfor.life publishes every product’s design files openly. This page summarizes the licenses in use; it is not legal advice.
Hardware
Schematics, PCB layouts, and mechanical (3D/CAD) files are published under the CERN Open Hardware Licence Version 2 — Strongly Reciprocal (CERN-OHL-S-2.0). This means:
- You can study, modify, and manufacture the hardware yourself.
- If you distribute a modified version, you must also license it under CERN-OHL-S-2.0 and make the source design files available.
Firmware
Firmware source code is published under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0).
Why open-source
Open-source is the most complete form of technology transfer we can offer. Every design becomes a permanent, freely accessible engineering resource — no proprietary tool is required to open, modify, or manufacture any B4L product.
